Stuff we found out.

When sat-nav goes wrong

chelsea.jpgHands up who knows where Chelsea FC's home ground is. Even those disinterested in football could doubtlessly make their way there if made to (not that we're going to such extremes), but our point is that Stamford Bridge is not hard to find, especially if you had the added benefit of sat-nav.

Tell that to a Northampton-based taxi-driver hired to drive Princess Diana's niece to the home game against Arsenal on Easter Sunday. Why? Because he ended up taking the footie-mad daughter of Earl Spencer to the Stamford Bridge near York. No tip for him!

The girl was picked up by a driver from Mayfair Taxis at the Earl's Althorp home near Northampton. From there it should have been 75 miles to see the blues beat the Gunners 2-1, except the driver stayed loyal to his sat-nav instructions and headed north to the identically named remote village 150 miles away.

The cab firm has remained tight-lipped on this embarrassing faux-pas, though a spokesperson for the estate told the Daily Record: "Mayfair's owner has apologised, and has promised to sort this matter out amicably."

A shame considering the stick Chelsea fans receive in the press for not attending their team's matches. Still, Yorkshire's Stamford Bridge is apparently known for its corn mill and viaduct, so it was probably more exciting than watching the cheating theatrics of Drogba and co.

Oh dear. Thing is, though - do minor royals really gets cabs from Northampton to London? And do they write off their carbon emissions?
