A thought for the afternoon.

Where will they drink now? Five Camden Drinking Holes

Now, before Glitterditch gets a whole load of angry people moaning (it wouldn't be the first time), let us say that we're very fond of Camden. We're also very sad that's it's looking a bit chargrilled right now. But one of our favourite things to do in Camden was drinking (way too much) beer. And yours too if you admit it.

This makes us ask the question, where will Glitterbitch, Amy and Noel drink now the Hawley Arms is out of action?

The Dublin Castle: Now, we do like it here sometimes. But the Dublin Castle is just not very special. It's packed to the brim and you'll either have a great night, or a really awful one. Those propping up the bar can glare for no reason, especially as they all look off their face and like they might fall over at any time. But then, surely that's just colourful Camden?

The World's End: It's a bit like Camden for the unimaginative. Or the downright scared as it's right next the station for a speedy getaway. But it's huge and you get some fun people in there. The staff could do with putting on a smile (even a sarcastic one) and my goodness those loos need a damn good clean. More than once a year.

The Cuban: OK, so it's not very Camden-esque but we like it in here. This is our Camden wildcard. It's right by the stables and it does great cocktails and great food. We like the little back garden thing in the market and we like the music. Although Glitterbitch isn't a fan of having to go outside in the cold to get to the bathroom. That's a bit wierd.

Liberties: It's not the best bar in the world, but it's got some plus points. It's like Camden trying to be upmarket, and it does it pretty well. It also some holds some great comedy which is very worthwhile. The food in here is apparently pretty good. But we warn you now, don't move their furniture about, they get pretty angry. (When we say furniture, we mean pot plants and we were very drunk. Sorry.)

And the one to avoid:

Edinboro Castle: We've never heard anything good about this place. Well, we actually know it to be a nice pub. But the only way of getting served under the hour is to apparently take your own beer. Which defeats the object of being in a pub. Seriously, if you're happy to stock up on bottles of beer and watch them get warm, then it might just be worth the trip.

Wow, we're really going to miss The Hawley Arms. Unless anyone knows a Camden drinkery that's better than the ones we've listed? Tell us in the comments.

You'll find the World's End and Liberties on Camden High Street. The Edinboro Castle is on Mornington Terrace but maybe The Dublin Castle on Parkway is a better option. You'll spot The Cuban on the corner of The Stables.

The Hawley was a nice pub, but it was ruined by it's preposterously wanky clientele.

Nearby, the Lock Tavern (just 2 minutes up Chalk Farm Road) is pretty good. Alternatively, there's always Quinns (around the corner on Kentish Town Road)...

Obviously Glitterditch is not part of this wanky clientele you talk about...

Of course not. There are always a few innocent (or not so innocent) casualties in places like that...
